This week we went to the local university and walked around meeting people- sharing brief messages about the church, answering questions, and extending invitations to learn more about the Gospel of Jesus Christ. And its all in Spanish! It is very exciting. the people here are so kind and receptive to our messages about Christ. Its a real treat.
Also this week we had the opportunity to watch an MTC devotional by Elder Bednar (an apostle of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, called by God to be a special witness of Jesus Christ). He spoke about the character of Christ. It was very moving. He shared some personal examples/experiences/thoughts regarding Christ. Dont have time to write them all down.
However the center of his message was very simple: Turn out. Get over yourself, forget about your worries, and turn out your heart towards those around you. Thats what Christ did. Thats what made Him different. While He suffered in Gethsemane He asked a few of his disciples to stay awake with Him. Three times they fell asleep while he suffered the sins of all mankind. In His darkest hour He was alone. All He asked from his disciples was to stay awake. How frustrating would that be? Then, almost immediately after this suffering in the garden He was betrayed by Judas and arrested. In defense of his Savior, Peter drew his sword and cut off the ear of one of the prosecutors. Imagine the sadness and frustration Christ must have already been feeling in this moment. Think of how much He had been through and was about to go through. But what did He do in this moment? He turned out. The Lord Jesus Christ, the Redeemer of all mankind, gently approached his prosecutor and healed his ear. He showed the utmost kindness, compassion, and pure selflessness during the most difficult point in His life. Elder Bednar asked that we put forth our best effort to follow the example of Jesus Christ. Any time we are angry, tired, hungry, stressed, etc. - just turn out.
